{"id":310830,"date":"2024-01-05T16:30:26","date_gmt":"2024-01-05T11:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=310830"},"modified":"2024-01-11T12:09:26","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T06:39:26","slug":"supreme-court-refuses-entertain-plea-questioning-indian-man-detention-planning-kill-gs-pannun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2024\/01\/05\/supreme-court-refuses-entertain-plea-questioning-indian-man-detention-planning-kill-gs-pannun\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court rejects plea questioning an Indian\u2019s detention in plot to kill pro-Khalistan lawyer GS Pannun"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Supreme Court:<\/span> In a writ petition filed by an anonymous relative of an Indian man, questioning his &#8216;illegal detention&#8217; in the Czech Republic in June 2023 on suspicion of planning to kill Khalistan sympathiser Gurpatwant Singh Pannun., the division bench of Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, JJ. has declined to consider grant of consular access and legal aid to the accused to challenge his accusations and extradition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">While keeping in view of the principles of public international law, sovereignty, and the comity of courts, the Court rejected the prayers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court noted that an officer of the Indian Embassy in Prague visited the accused while he was in detention. He had also approached the Delhi High Court, wherein the Court has passed an order regarding the furnishing of certain details\/documents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court asked the
