Bombay High Court<\/span> granted bail to journalist and activist Gautam Navlakha in Bhima Koregaon case of 2018 who was an accused in the matter due to alleged Maoist links. The matter involves offences under Sections 153(A)<\/a>, 505(1)(B)<\/a>, 117<\/a>, 120(B)<\/a>, 121<\/a>, 121(A)<\/a>, 124(A)<\/a> & 34<\/a> of the Penal Code, 1860<\/a> (‘IPC’) and Sections 13<\/a>, 16<\/a>, 17<\/a>, 18<\/a>, 18(A)<\/a>, 18(B)<\/a>, 20<\/a>, 38<\/a>, 39<\/a> and 40<\/a> of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967<\/a> (‘UAPA’).<\/p>\n

Gautam Navlakha had been in custody since August 2018 and under house arrest since 2022 after Supreme Court allowed his transfer from jail on medical grounds, while imposing several conditions. The Supreme Court had previously dealt with his application for bail in 2021, but apparently, Gautam Navlakha was not able to make a case for default bail.<\/a><\/p>\n

On National Investigation Agency’s prayer to stay operation of the order allowing bail to Gautam Navlakha, the Court stayed operation of the instant order for a period of 3 weeks so that NIA could file an appeal before the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
