ABOUT INSOLVENCY LAW ACADEMY<\/p>\n

On 15th<\/span> August, 2022, the Prime Minister of India pledged to raise millions out of poverty and turn India into a developed country in the next quarter-century. In 2019, the Prime Minister envisioned making India a USD 5 trillion economy and a global economic powerhouse by 2024-25. To support these goals, we need a robust insolvency system that ranks amongst the best in the world, and expedite enforcement of contracts.<\/p>\n

In 2016, India introduced the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. Due to its effective implementation, green shoots have emerged early. However, concerns remain about its effectiveness and efficiency in some areas. There is also a need for an independent institution that can prepare the foreground for addressing the next generation reforms, assist the government and regulator in making evidence-based policy choices, legislative changes and implementation. Implementation of cross-border insolvency law, introduction of mediation and preparation for the individual insolvency and bankruptcy law would require deep thinking. Torch bearers are needed to provide research and policy support in these areas. In parallel, the capacity of market players needs to be constantly upgraded to deal with these dynamics. The country urgently needs institutions that can anchor and support it in fulfilling this national goal of the new India.<\/p>\n

The Insolvency Law Academy has been conceived as one such premier institution.<\/span> It all began with an idea in February 2022, when Sumant Batra envisioned the creation of a world-class institution to complement the efforts of Indian policymakers in strengthening the nation’s insolvency system. This idea swiftly evolved into a compelling vision. Mr. Batra shared this vision with prominent Indian economists, intellectuals, legal scholars, and global leaders during INSOL International’s annual conference in London. As momentum built, all the necessary components fell into place, culminating in the establishment of a public foundation.<\/p>\n

ILA held a very successful Research Conference 4th<\/span>-5th<\/span> February 2023 in hotel ITC Maurya, New Delhi which was attended by top international thinkers and insolvency leadership of the country.<\/p>\n

ILA CONFERENCE 2024<\/p>\n

ILA is holding its 2nd Annual Conference, the 2nd meeting of ILA\u2019s Insolvency Scholars Forum and 1st meeting of ILA\u2019s Emerging Scholar\u2019s Group from 9th to 11th February, 2024 (ILA 2024) in Goa.<\/p>\n

Global events in last few decades have persuaded governments around the globe and international institutions to make resilience central in the insolvency policy strategies and policy-guiding principles. This approach clearly derives from the growing uncertainty and complexity that policymakers are faced with. There is a growing recognition of the importance of policy designs that can address or minimize the impacts of potential shocks and uncertainty. In particular, policy designers are faced with the challenges of uncertain linkages between policy actions and outcomes, a highly complex and ill-defined policy problem space that encompasses multiple interacting elements. Many countries have recently reviewed their insolvency policies to address the challenges thrown by the black swan event- COVID -19 and deal with the dynamics resulting from the recent geo-political developments, to make the insolvency systems not just robust, but also resilient. Policy makers must be fleet-footed and resilient to manage these factors. Others are presently reviewing their insolvency laws, actively to consider new approaches to insolvency. The ILA 2024 will discuss the international developments and the emerging policy choices.<\/p>\n
