{"id":307042,"date":"2023-11-13T09:00:06","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T03:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=307042"},"modified":"2023-11-17T15:53:38","modified_gmt":"2023-11-17T10:23:38","slug":"dhc-directs-delhi-government-proposal-establishment-specialized-training-academy-public-prosecutors-legal-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2023\/11\/13\/dhc-directs-delhi-government-proposal-establishment-specialized-training-academy-public-prosecutors-legal-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Delhi High Court directs Government of Delhi to finalise proposal for establishment of specialised training academy for public prosecutors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Delhi High Court:<\/span> The Division Bench of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Satish Chandra Sharma, C.J.*<\/span>, and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tushar Rao Gedela, J.*<\/span>, directed the Government of Delhi to finalize its proposal qua the establishment of a specialized training academy for public prosecutors within four weeks&#8217; form the date of this order and file an affidavit outlining the steps taken in furtherance of the same before the next date of hearing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">In the present case, vide order dated 14-09-2023, this Court had directed the Government of Delhi to assist the Union of India with requisite information required to facilitate the revision of pay scales of Assistant Public Prosecutors. Further, this Court had directed the Government of Delhi to file a status report in relation to (i) the implementation of direction regarding training programmes, and (ii) the latest position of vacancies in respect of public prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court noted that the newly appointed Public Prosecutors had been provided with adequate training at the Delhi Judicial Academy; and that a proposal for a specialized academy was pending consideration with the Government of Delhi. The Court further noted that said training was provided by the Government of Delhi on an ad hoc basis and had reiterated the need for a structured training programme for the newly appointed Public Prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court observed that vide its order dated 14-09-2023, public prosecutors&#8217; shoulder weighty responsibilities in the discharge of their duties. The Court thus directed the Government of Delhi to finalize its proposal qua the establishment of a specialised training academy for public prosecutors within four weeks&#8217; form the date of this order and file an affidavit outlining the steps taken in furtherance of the same before the next date of hearing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The matter would next be listed on 06-12-2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">[<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #632423;\">Delhi Prosecutors Welfare Association v.
