{"id":303720,"date":"2023-10-06T10:00:46","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T04:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=303720"},"modified":"2023-10-18T12:08:08","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T06:38:08","slug":"supreme-court-rebukes-jharkhand-sleeping-over-20-year-old-case-back-wages-summons-chief-secretary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2023\/10\/06\/supreme-court-rebukes-jharkhand-sleeping-over-20-year-old-case-back-wages-summons-chief-secretary\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court rebukes Jharkhand Govt. for sleeping over 20-year-old case on back wages; Summons State\u2019s Chief Secretary"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Supreme Court:<\/span> In a writ petition relating to the grant of wages to the employees for the last 20 years, the division bench of Vikram Nath and Rajesh Bindal, JJ. directed the Chief Secretary of the State of Jharkhand to remain present before the Court on 09-10-2023, as despite due service of notice no one has put in appearance on behalf of the State of Jharkhand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court noted that a notice has been issued to the respondents vide order dated 14-11-2022. Further, the State of Bihar has already filed its counter affidavit, and the Union of India had prayed for and is granted a week&#8217;s time to file reply to affidavit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Court said that in such a sensitive matter, the State of Jharkhand has been sleeping over it and not even concerned with engaging a counsel in this matter. Thus, the Court directed the Chief Secretary of the State of Jharkhand to remain present before the Court on 09-10-2023, as despite due service of notice no one has put in appearance on behalf of the State of Jharkhand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">In the meantime, the Court asked the petitioners to file rejoinder affidavit to the counter affidavit filed by the State of Bihar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The matter will next be taken up on 09-10-2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">[<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #632423;\">Bihar State Ardh Sarkari Arajpati Karamchari Maha Sangh v.
