{"id":298632,"date":"2023-08-05T13:00:31","date_gmt":"2023-08-05T07:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=298632"},"modified":"2023-08-05T08:57:55","modified_gmt":"2023-08-05T03:27:55","slug":"can-foundation-announces-eklavya-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2023\/08\/05\/can-foundation-announces-eklavya-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"CAN Foundation announces Eklavya, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">CAN Foundation announces <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">5th Edition of Project Eklavya<\/span> to support undergraduate students in National Law Universities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Confederation of Alumni for National Law Universities (CAN) Foundation invites applications for the fifth iteration of their flagship initiative, <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Project Eklavya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Project Eklavya<\/span> aims to facilitate access to higher education for deserving but underprivileged law students pursuing an undergraduate course through the provision of an annual scholarship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">In the academic session of 2022-23, a total of<span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\"> 51 students<\/span> were granted scholarships amounting to approximately <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">INR 47 Lakhs<\/span> under the Fourth Edition of the Project. From 2019 to 2022, the Foundation has awarded over INR 1.35 Crores in scholarships. In 2021, the disbursal was INR 40 Lakhs to 45 Students. Under Eklavya 2020, the Foundation distributed a scholarship support of INR 25 Lakhs to 30 Scholars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The selection process for Project Eklavya follows a rigorous two-tiered approach aimed at identifying the most deserving candidates. In the first tier, renowned legal professionals scrutinise the applications received and shortlist the candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria. After this, a High-Powered Selection Committee assesses the financial requirements and academic merit of the shortlisted candidates, culminating in the scholars&#8217; final selection. This meticulous approach ensures that the most deserving students receive this financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">High-Powered Selection Committee <\/span>for Eklavya 2022 was headed by  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Hon&#8217;ble Mr<\/span>. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Justice AK Sikri<\/span> (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India) as its Chairperson and consists of <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Hon&#8217;ble<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Justice Gita Mittal<\/span> (Former Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court) and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao<\/span> (Senior Advocate, High Court of Delhi) as its members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The<span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\"> High-Powered Selection Committe<\/span> for Eklavya 2023 will be headed by<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> Hon&#39;ble Mr. Justice L. Nageswara Rao<\/span> (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India). It is an honour and a matter of pride for the Foundation to have him on board with us, in order to guide us through this humble initiative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Ms. Srishti Chaturvedi, Secretary, CAN Foundation<\/span>, stated on behalf of the Foundation, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&#8220;Our aim is to make legal education accessible to everyone. The Foundation has been striving to work towards it since our humble beginnings in 2021, and with the support of our respected patrons and donors, our reach, both in terms of the number of Eklavya Scholars and the Scholarship amount, has increased every year. In Eklavya 2022, this generosity helped us disburse a total scholarship amount of INR 47 Lakhs and for Eklavya 2023, we are targeting an amount of at least INR 51 Lakhs. Being a part of this Project for some years, I can confidently state that our Eklavya Scholars are highly meritorious despite the extreme financial adversities, and it fills us with pride to see so many of them excelling in their initial steps in the legal profession already. We urge the legal fraternity to kindly contribute to our cause and help us achieve our vision of Accessible Legal Education.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Since its establishment in 2019, the CAN Foundation has made significant strides towards its mission of fostering a sense of community within the National Law Universities and promoting legal awareness and education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Eligibility Criteria<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">For applying under Project Eklavya, the Student must<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">1) Be enrolled in any undergraduate degree of any National Law University;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">2) Be currently in second year or above;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">3) have secured a minimum of <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">65% aggregate\/average marks<\/span> in the last three semesters (for the last two semesters for students currently in their 2nd Year).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">4) Have an Annual Cumulative Family Income (of father, mother, unmarried brother or sister) that does not exceed <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Rs. 8,00,000 per year<\/span>, including the current financial year<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">How to apply<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The detailed <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Application Form<\/span> with the instructions for Project Eklavya 2023 is available and can be accessed at the official website of the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">CAN Foundation<\/span> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canfoundation.in\/project-eklavya\">https:\/\/www.canfoundation.in\/project-eklavya<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">The deadline for sending the duly filled application is 12th August, 2023.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CAN Foundation announces 5th Edition of Project Eklavya to support undergraduate students in National Law Universities.
