The Confederation of Alumni for National Law Universities Foundation<\/span> (CAN Foundation) in collaboration with the National Law Institute University, Bhopal<\/span> and Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur<\/a><\/span>, and the, is proud to announce the upcoming event, the ‘3rd Justice HR Khanna Memorial National Symposium’<\/span>. This symposium serves as a tribute to the extraordinary legacy of Late Justice HR Khanna<\/span>, a towering figure in the Indian judiciary. The event will take place virtually on 8th July 2023<\/span>.<\/p>\n

ABOUT JUSTICE HR KHANNA<\/b><\/p>\n

Late Justice HR Khanna was a legal luminary who left an indelible mark on the Indian judiciary. Born on October 28, 1912, in Amritsar, Punjab, he embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape the course of India’s legal landscape.<\/p>\n

Justice Khanna’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the Fundamental Rights of citizens remains an inspiration to generations of legal professionals. His illustrious career spanned several decades, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping constitutional jurisprudence.<\/p>\n

Throughout his tenure as a Supreme Court Judge from 1971 to 1977, Justice Khanna delivered a series of landmark judgments that left an indelible imprint on the fabric of Indian democracy. His fearless pursuit of justice and his dedication to preserving the sanctity of the Constitution stand as a testament to his unwavering principles.<\/p>\n

Justice Khanna’s profound commitment to justice and his steadfast refusal to succumb to external influences earned him great respect and admiration. He firmly believed in the separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary, ensuring that justice prevailed, regardless of the circumstances.<\/p>\n

Beyond his contributions to the legal field, Justice Khanna embodied integrity, intellectual rigour, and an unwavering dedication to the principles of democracy and human rights. Justice HR Khanna’s remarkable legacy continues to inspire the legal fraternity to strive for justice, fairness, and the protection of fundamental rights. THE SYMPOSIUM<\/b><\/p>\n

The 3rd Justice HR Khanna Memorial National Symposium will be graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mr. Justice M.M. Sundresh<\/span> (Judge, Supreme Court of India) as the Chief Guest and Mr. Justice Dipankar Dutta<\/span> (Judge, Supreme Court of India) as the Presiding Guest and Hon’ble Ms. Justice Gita Mittal<\/span> (Former Chief Justice, J&K High Court and Judge, Delhi High Court) who shall be a part of the Panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Symposium shall also witness the august presence of Mr. C.S. Vaidyanathan, Mr. S. Guru Krishna Kumar, and Mr. Shyam Divan<\/span> (Senior Advocates, Supreme Court of India) as Panellists for the sessions.<\/p>\n

The symposium will consist of two engaging sessions, each focusing on a crucial aspect of the judicial system. The pre-lunch session will be held between 11:00 AM and 01:30 PM and the post-lunch session will be held between 2:30 PM and 04:00 PM. Each Esteemed Panellist shall be speaking for around 20-25 minutes on a topic veering around a constitutional issue of contemporary relevance.<\/p>\n

The first session, titled “State Surveillance & Privacy: The Lakshaman Rekha Between”<\/span>, will explore the delicate balance between criminal investigation and privacy rights in an era of heightened state surveillance. This session aims to provoke thoughtful discussions on striking the right balance between security concerns and safeguarding individual privacy.<\/p>\n

The second session, “Legal Stalwarts & Their Contribution to the Judicial System”<\/span>, will pay homage to the remarkable contributions of legal luminaries to the Indian judicial system. It will delve into the transformative impact of these stalwarts’ decisions, judgments, and legal philosophy, emphasizing the enduring legacy they have left behind.<\/p>\n

The CAN Foundation, in collaboration with National Law University Jodhpur and Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, had the distinct privilege of hosting the 1st Justice H R Khanna Memorial National Symposium. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. Justice U U Lalit<\/span> (Judge, Supreme Court of India) as the Chief Guest, Mr. Justice V. Ramasubramanian<\/span> (Judge, Supreme Court of India) as the Presiding Guest, and Hon’ble Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar as the Guest of Honour.<\/p>\n

At the 2nd Justice H R Khanna Memorial National Symposium, organized in collaboration with Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, and National Law University, Odisha, was a momentous occasion. The symposium was honored to have Mr. Justice Vikram Nath<\/span> (Judge, Supreme Court of India) as the Chief Guest and Mr. Justice J.B. Pardiwala<\/span> (Judge, Supreme Court of India) as the Presiding Guest, both eminent personalities in the legal realm.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the 3rd edition of the upcoming symposium, Adv. Siddharth R. Gupta, CEO, CAN Foundation<\/span>, expressed his deepest reverence for Late Justice H.R. Khanna and the significance of commemorating his contributions to the field of law. He stated,<\/p>\n

“Justice H.R. Khanna was a beacon of hope during a time of political turmoil in India. His fearless dissent in the landmark case of ADM Jabalpur v.
