{"id":294119,"date":"2023-06-07T17:30:57","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T12:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=294119"},"modified":"2023-06-07T17:14:14","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T11:44:14","slug":"delhi-high-court-revises-dress-code-of-judicial-officers-and-advocates-legal-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2023\/06\/07\/delhi-high-court-revises-dress-code-of-judicial-officers-and-advocates-legal-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Delhi High Court issues circular on Dress Code of Judicial Officers &amp; Advocates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">On 2-6-2023, the Delhi High Court issued a circular revising the Dress Code of Judicial Officers and Advocates.<\/p>\n<p><b>Key Points:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Rule 30 of &#8220;Canons of Judicial Ethics&#8221;, High Court Rules &amp; Orders (Vol. IV)<\/b> relating to &#8220;Dress of Judicial Officers and Advocates&#8221; has been substituted.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><b>Dress of Male Judicial Officers:<\/b> white shirt, white band, black coat and grey or white trousers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Dress of Female Judicial Officers:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Earlier<\/b>, only white sari with black blouse or white shirt with white salwar, and black coat were allowed.<\/p>\n<p><b>Now<\/b>, the following are also allowed:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p><b>Blouse\/ Shirt-<\/b> White\/ black, full\/ half sleeved<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Sarees-<\/b> white\/ black\/ combination<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Pants\/ Salwar\/ Churidar\/ Long Skirt-<\/b> white\/ black\/ grey<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>White Collar-<\/b> stiff\/ soft<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>White Band<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Black Coat-<\/b> Full sleeved<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Dress of Advocates:<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The dress of advocates has to be as specified in the Bar Council of India Rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>A black buttoned up coat, chapkan, achkan, black sherwani and white bands with Advocates&#8217; Gowns.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A black open breast coat. white shirt, white collar, stiff or soft, and white bands with Advocates&#8217; Gowns.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In either case wear long trousers (white, black striped or grey) Dhoti excluding jeans.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\">Black tie can be worn instead of bands: In Supreme Court, High Courts, District Courts, Sessions Courts or City Civil Courts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 3%;\"><b>Earlier<\/b>, Rule 30 provided different kinds of dress codes for subordinate judges, magistrates, district and sessions judges, and lady judicial officers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 2-6-2023, the Delhi High Court issued a circular revising the Dress Code of Judicial Officers and Advocates.
