About the University:<\/p>\n

Aliah University – a State University under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal – came into existence through the Aliah University Act (Act XXVII of 2007) passed by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The Act came into force on 5 April 2008. However, its parent institution – from which it was upgraded to a University – was usually mentioned in various old Government records varyingly as Calcutta Mohammedan College or Calcutta Madrasah or Aliah Madrasah, which the British Governor-General Warren Hastings established in 1780.<\/p>\n

About the Department of Law:<\/p>\n

The Department of Law was started in 2013. The Department is aimed to provide higher Legal education with the overall grooming of the students. The post-graduation degree in law helps students better understand any dispute’s constitutional and jurisprudential aspects and provides profound clarity on the legal procedure. The Department offers Master of Law (LL.M.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) courses currently. There are 40 seats in the LL.M. course. The Department focuses on academic excellence and provides an educational and research environment where students can excel to the best of their abilities.<\/p>\n

About the seminar:<\/p>\n

This seminar will provide a comprehensive introduction to the principles, concepts, evolution, current trends, and challenges of intellectual property law, as well as its significance in the modern world. The seminar will explore both theoretical and practical aspects, using interactive exercises and discussions to offer participants practical insights into pressing issues, such as recent IP developments in India, the evolution of domestic IP laws to improve protection, the ongoing evolution of IP case law in India (especially in pharmaceutical cases), necessary legislation to harmonize India’s IP system with global standards, and current efforts to strengthen IP enforcement in India. The Department of Law at Aliah University, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Aliah University, Kolkata, is organizing this National Level seminar, which will incorporate real-world examples and interactive exercises to provide participants with practical insights into selected aspects of IPR and the latest developments in intellectual property in India and globally. The National Level Seminar’s objective is also to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and perspectives among educators, legal experts, practicing professionals, IP advocates, and individuals with a passion for intellectual property in their respective fields of interest.<\/p>\n

Who is it for?<\/p>\n

All students, academicians, research scholars, lawyers and other interested candidates are eligible to participate in the seminar.<\/p>\n

Location:<\/p>\n

The seminar would be held at Aliah University, Park Circus Campus, 17, Gora Chand Road, Kolkata- 700014 from 10 am to 5pm.<\/p>\n
