In order to extend every possible facilitation to the flood affected people of Tamilnadu, the Department of Financial Services in the Ministry of Finance issued guidelines\/ instructions to be followed by Banks and other Financial Institutions. Given that the floods would have affected the working of bank branches and ATMs, the banks are requested to ensure that in places where ATMs are not functional, alternative mechanisms like mobile ATM, ATM vans and mobile ATMs mounted on boats are made available. The banks may also put their employees\u2019 alongwith laptops to facilitate withdrawals in localities themselves.<\/p>\n
The banks have also been directed that, as they are the implementing agency for the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, they must appoint a Nodal Officer for each bank as a whole as well as for specific districts and their telephone numbers be publicized so that the general public is aware as to whom should they contact. The Department also directed all Public Sector General\u00a0 Insurance Companies and LIC to take immediate action and nominate a senior level officer as nodal officer in the State for coordinating and expediting the settlement of claims that are reported in the State due to this disaster.<\/p>\n
