{"id":281027,"date":"2023-01-04T18:15:42","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T12:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=281027"},"modified":"2023-01-04T17:58:03","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T12:28:03","slug":"cabinet-approves-national-green-hydrogen-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2023\/01\/04\/cabinet-approves-national-green-hydrogen-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet approves National Green Hydrogen Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Union Cabinet has approved National Green Hydrogen Mission.\u00a0 The initial outlay for the Mission will be \u00a0Rs.19,744 crore, including an outlay of Rs.17,490 crore for the SIGHT\u00a0 programme, Rs.1,466 crore for pilot projects, Rs.400 crore for R&amp;D, and Rs. 388 crore towards other Mission components.\u00a0 MNRE will formulate the scheme guidelines for implementation of the respective components.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mission will result in the following likely outcomes by 2030:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Development of green\u00a0 hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 MMT (Million Metric Tonne) per annum with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW in the country<\/li>\n<li>Over Rs. Eight lakh crore in total investments<\/li>\n<li>Creation of over Six lakh jobs<\/li>\n<li>Cumulative reduction in fossil fuel imports over Rs. One lakh crore<\/li>\n<li>Abatement of nearly 50 MMT of annual greenhouse gas emissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mission\u00a0will have wide ranging benefits- creation of export opportunities for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives; Decarbonisation\u00a0of industrial, mobility and energy sectors; reduction in dependence on imported fossil fuels and feedstock; development of indigenous manufacturing capabilities; creation of employment opportunities; and development of cutting-edge technologies.\u00a0 India\u2019s Green Hydrogen production capacity is likely to reach at least 5 MMT per annum, with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW.\u00a0 The targets by 2030 are likely to bring in over Rs. 8 lakh crore investments and create over 6 lakh jobs.\u00a0 Nearly 50 MMT per annum of CO2 emissions are expected to be averted by 2030.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mission will facilitate demand creation, production, utilization and export of Green Hydrogen.\u00a0 Under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition Programme (SIGHT), two distinct financial incentive mechanisms \u2013 targeting domestic manufacturing of electrolysers and production of Green Hydrogen \u2013 will be provided under the Mission.\u00a0 The Mission will also support pilot projects in emerging end-use sectors and production pathways.\u00a0 Regions capable of supporting large scale production and\/or utilization of Hydrogen will be identified and developed as Green Hydrogen Hubs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An enabling policy framework will be developed to support establishment of Green Hydrogen ecosystem.\u00a0\u00a0 A robust Standards and Regulations framework will be also developed.\u00a0 Further, a public-private partnership framework for R&amp;D (Strategic Hydrogen Innovation Partnership \u2013 SHIP) will be facilitated under the Mission; R&amp;D projects will be goal-oriented, time bound, and suitably scaled up to develop globally competitive technologies.\u00a0 A coordinated skill development programme will also be undertaken under the Mission.<\/p>\n<p
