{"id":272991,"date":"2022-09-05T10:30:56","date_gmt":"2022-09-05T05:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=272991"},"modified":"2022-09-05T10:30:56","modified_gmt":"2022-09-05T05:00:56","slug":"can-foundation-announces-4th-edition-of-project-eklavya-to-support-undergrads-in-nlus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2022\/09\/05\/can-foundation-announces-4th-edition-of-project-eklavya-to-support-undergrads-in-nlus\/","title":{"rendered":"CAN Foundation announces 4th Edition of Project Eklavya to support undergrads in NLUs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;\">\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Confederation of Alumni for National Law Universities (CAN) Foundation has invited applications for the fourth edition of one of its flagship projects, <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Project Eklavya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">Project Eklavya seeks to ease the pursuit of education for deserving, but underprivileged, undergraduate law students by providing them with an annual scholarship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">In the academic session 2021-22, under the 3rd edition of the Project, <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><i>45 students<\/i> <\/span>were given scholarships, amounting to Rs. 40 Lakhs approximately. They aim to provide similar assistance this year as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">The Selection Procedure for Project Eklavya is designed as a meticulous two-tier process that, as per the Foundation, seeks to ensure that the most deserving candidates are extended help. This <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">2-tier process<\/span>, comprises eminent legal professionals being requested to undertake strict scrutiny of the application received. The students will be shortlisted by a carefully nominated <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Tier-1 Scrutiny Committee<\/span>, post which the applications would be carefully verified and examined by a <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">3-Membered High-Powered Panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-273052 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/High-Powered-Selection-Committee_Eklavya-2022-300x250.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/>The <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">High-Powered Selection Committee<\/span> for <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Eklavya 2022<\/span> is headed by <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Justice AK Sikri <\/span>(Former Judge, Supreme Court of India) as its Chairperson and consists of <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Justice Gita Mittal <\/span>(Former Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court) and Senior Advocate<span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\"> Rajshekhar Rao <\/span>as its members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">The <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">Tier-1 Scrutiny Committee<\/span> shall comprise members of the legal fraternity having a minimum standing of ten years at the Bar.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-273049 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Tier-One-Scrutiny-Committee_Eklavya-2022-300x250.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">It consists of Amalpushp Shroti (AOR, Supreme Court), Archana Pathak Dave (AOR, Supreme Court), Radhika Biswajit Dubey (Independent Counsel, Arbitrator), K Parmeshwar (Advocate, Supreme Court), Mrigank Prabhakar (AOR, Supreme Court) and Tariq Khan (Registrar, IAMC, Hyderabad).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Eligibility Criteria<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">For applying under Project Eklavya, the Student must<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">1) Be in the 2nd Year or above.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">2) Be enrolled in any undergraduate degree of any NLU<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt;\">3) have secured a minimum of <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;\">65% aggregate\/average marks<\/span> in the last three semesters (for the last two semesters for students currently in their 2nd Year).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 36pt; text-indent: -18pt; margin-bottom: 3%;\">4) Have an Annual Cumulative Family Income (of father, mother, unmarried brother or sister) that does not exceed <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><i>Rs. 8,00,000 per year<\/i><\/span>, including the current financial year<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\">How to apply<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 18pt;
