{"id":269875,"date":"2022-07-11T14:00:44","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T08:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=269875"},"modified":"2022-07-11T15:08:56","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T09:38:56","slug":"call-for-papers-national-conference-on-protection-of-traditional-knowledge-and-biodiversity-27-28th-july-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2022\/07\/11\/call-for-papers-national-conference-on-protection-of-traditional-knowledge-and-biodiversity-27-28th-july-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Papers | National Conference on Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Biodiversity [27 &#8211; 28th July, 2022]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hidayatullah National Law University and Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board to organize a National Conference on Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Biodiversity: Problems and Prospects on 27<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; 28<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0July 2022.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To commemorate World Nature Conservation Day which falls on 28<sup>th<\/sup> July of every year, \u00a0the Hidayatullah National Law University is all set to organize a National Conference on Protection of Traditional Knowledge &amp; Biodiversity: Problems &amp; Prospects in collaboration with the Chattisgarh State Biodiversity Board\u00a0 on 27<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; 28<sup>th<\/sup> \u00a0July 2022<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chhattisgarh is replete with many National Parks and Biosphere\u00a0 Reserves which makes it one of the Biodiversity hotspots. Achanakmar- Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve is one such place which has been recognized by UNESCO. Approximately 80% of the population of Chhattisgarh is rural and dependent on agriculture and agriculture-based small industries. Farmers still use traditional methods and rely more on organic farming. Medicinal rice and Chloroxylon produced in State are well known for their use. Therefore, the traditional knowledge of the people of the State needs recognition to a greater extent and adequate protection under the legal regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Biological Diversity Act, 2002 has created a legal framework to protect traditional knowledge and allows the community to derive benefit from sharing and commercialization of the same. It\u2019s aim is to ensure that benefits arising out of the use of biological resources must be equitable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Against this backdrop, the Conference aims to bring civil society, government agencies, academia, research scholars, and students to deliberate on the obstacles faced in preserving traditional knowledge. It will also include the discussions on the potential of the Biodiversity Act to promote traditional knowledge and the prospect of the Act to economically empower the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For this purpose Research Papers\/Articles in English are invited from Academicians, Professionals, Practitioners, Researchers, Students of law, social science and environmental science, and other stakeholders on the emerging issues and related areas on the broader sub-themes given below.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Legal protections for traditional knowledge and biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Traditional Knowledge and Access Benefit Sharing<\/li>\n<li>Role of Institutions\/Civil Society in the protection of Traditional Knowledge and Biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual Property and Traditional Knowledge Traditional Knowledge and Sustainable use of Biodiversity Business and Biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Corporate responsibility and Biodiversity Conservation<\/li>\n<li>Biodiversity and Corporate Social Responsibility<\/li>\n<li>Community Rights and International Framework<\/li>\n<li>Indigenous Knowledge and Environment Protection<\/li>\n<li>Traditional Knowledge and World Trade<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These sub-themes are only suggestive and not exhaustive. Papers that are \u00a0not covered under the above-mentioned sub-themes yet hold relevance in the thrust area may also be considered.
