The advisory comes in light of instances of a number of advertisements of online betting websites\/platforms appearing in print, electronic, social and online media.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Betting<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">gambling<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">illegal<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">most<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">parts<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">country,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">concerns<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">have<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">been<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">expressed<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">advertisements<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">online<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">betting<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">promote<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">an <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">activity<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">which<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">otherwise<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">largely<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">prohibited<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">poses<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">significant<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">financial <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">socio-economic<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">risk<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">consumers,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">especially<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">youth<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">children. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Further,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">advertisements<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">online<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">betting<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">are<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">misleading,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">do<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">not<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">appear<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">be<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">strict<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">conformity<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Consumer<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Protection<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Act<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2019,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Advertising <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Code<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">under<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Cable<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Television<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Networks<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Regulation<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Act,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">1995,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">advertisement<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">norms<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">under<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Norms<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Journalistic<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Conduct<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">laid<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">down<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Rules,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The advisory has been issued in larger public interest, and it has advised the print and electronic media to refrain from publishing advertisements of online betting platforms. It has also advised the online and social media, including the online advertisement intermediaries and publishers, to not display such advertisements in India or target such advertisements towards the
