{"id":249223,"date":"2021-06-04T09:00:08","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T03:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=249223"},"modified":"2021-06-04T13:40:45","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T08:10:45","slug":"burger-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2021\/06\/04\/burger-king\/","title":{"rendered":"Competition Commission of South Africa interdicts transaction to acquire Burger King | Read how merger would have impacted \u2018Historically Disadvantaged Persons\u2019?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Competition Commission of South Africa in a statement prohibited the transaction proposed by ECP Africa intended to acquire Burger King (South Africa) and Grand Foods Meat Plant (Pty) Ltd (grand Foods) from Grand Parade Investments.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">What would be the impact of the merger?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commission found that the merger would lead to a significant reduction in the shareholding of historically disadvantaged persons in the target firm, from more than 68% to 0% as a result of the merger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The said merger would not have resulted in a substantial prevention or lessening of competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commission stated that the acquiring firms do not have ownership by historically disadvantaged persons (HDPs).
