This shall come into force from 1<sup>st<\/sup> April, 2021. The national minimum wage increases:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>from \u00a38.20 to \u00a38.36 for 21 to 22 year old<\/li>\n<li>from \u00a36.45 to \u00a36.56 for 18 to 20 year old<\/li>\n<li>from \u00a34.55 to \u00a34.62 for 16 and 17 year old<\/li>\n<li>from \u00a34.15 to \u00a34.30 for apprentices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Statutory payments<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The UK government has announced the annual increases to various statutory compensation limits. The maximum amount for a week\u2019s pay will increase to \u00a3544 per week (from \u00a3538 per week). The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal increases to \u00a389,493 (from \u00a388,519) where the effective date of termination is on or after 6 April 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>National Minimum Wage and sleep-in shifts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 19th March, 2021, the UK Supreme Court gave their long-awaited decision in the cases <em>of Royal Mencap Society v Tomlinson-Blake<\/em> and <em>Shannon v Rampersad and another (T\/A Clifton House Residential Home) <\/em>with respect to whether workers who sleep-in to carry out their duties are entitled to the national minimum wage (NMW) for the full duration of their night shift. The Supreme Court held:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;For hours when workers are paid to sleep on the work premises, workers and employers should agree their allowance, as they do now.
