{"id":245718,"date":"2021-03-18T09:40:28","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T04:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=245718"},"modified":"2021-03-18T09:40:28","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T04:10:28","slug":"cheque-truncation-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2021\/03\/18\/cheque-truncation-system\/","title":{"rendered":"RBI |Cheque Truncation System for faster clearing of cheques to extend in all bank branches by September 30, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Extension of Cheque Truncation System (CTS) across all bank branches in the country.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>What is Cheque Truncation System (CTS)?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cheque Truncation System of Image-based Clearing System is for faster clearing of cheques.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cheque Truncation speeds up the process of collection of cheques resulting in better service to customers, reduces the scope of loss of instruments in transit, lowers the cost of collection of cheques, and removes reconciliation-related and logistics-related problems, thus benefitting the system as a whole.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>When was CTS implemented?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The CTS is in use since 2010 and presently covers around 1,50,000 branches. All the erstwhile 1219 non-CTS clearing houses (ECCS centres) have been migrated to CTS effective September 2020. It is, however, seen that there are branches of banks that are outside any formal clearing arrangement and their customers face hardships due to longer time taken and cost involved in collection of cheques presented by them.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>CTS to extend across all bank branches<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To leverage the availability of CTS and provide uniform customer experience irrespective of location of her\/his bank branch, it has been decided to extend CTS across all bank branches in the country. To facilitate this, banks shall have to ensure that all their branches participate in image-based CTS under respective grids by September 30, 2021.
