The Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL) at National Law University, Jodhpur undertakes study and research in the theory and practice of arbitration law through workshops, guest lectures, and conferences, along with bi-annually publishing the Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL), which is listed on leading databases, including Kluwer Arbitration.<\/p>\n

About CARTAL<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Centre for Advanced Training and Research in Arbitration Law (\u2018CARTAL<\/strong>\u2019<\/em>) provides a platform for academicians, professionals and students to interact and discuss contemporary issues in arbitration law.\u00a0 The mandate of the Centre is achieved by the organization of workshops, conferences and guest lectures to facilitate the understanding of such issues.\u00a0 Details regarding CARTAL and its activities are available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

About IJAL<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (\u2018IJAL<\/strong>\u2019) is a bi-annual, open-access, student-run journal published by CARTAL.\u00a0 IJAL is widely recognized as the leading Indian dispute resolution journal and an excellent source of reference in the field.\u00a0 IJAL\u2019s Board of Advisers consists of some of the preeminent authorities in international arbitration including Mr. Alexis Mourre, Prof. Emmanuel Gaillard, Prof. Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler, Mr. Gary B. About the competition<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

CARTAL is organising the 5th Gary B. Born Essay Competition on International Arbitration (\u2018Competition<\/strong>\u2019) to encourage research and literature in international arbitration. The Competition is organized with the support and patronage of Mr. Gary B. Born and aims to\u00a0encourage law students to explore forward-looking issues in international arbitration.<\/p>\n

Themes<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The themes of the fifth edition of the competition aim to foster research on some of the contemporary developments in international arbitration and are listed below:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The Case for or against: Appellate Tribunals in Arbitration<\/li>\n
  2. The \u2018Red Flag\u2019 of Corruption in International Arbitration<\/li>\n
  3. Double Hatting in International Arbitration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Eligibility<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

    The competition is open to all students enrolled in an undergraduate or post graduate programme in law (B.C.L., J.D., LL.B., LL.M. or their local equivalent) in any recognised university across the world. Students who have completed an above-mentioned programme or their equivalent in 2020, and post graduate students who are selected for, and will be enrolled in any such programme for 2020-2021 are also eligible to participate.<\/p>\n

    Submission<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

    To participate in the competition, interested students must e-mail a copy of their completed essays to\u00a0editors@ijal.in<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a02359 hours\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0September 20, 2020<\/strong>\u00a0(Indian Standard Time, GMT +5:30). Late submissions shall not be accepted under any circumstances whatsoever.\u00a0No part of the essay should contain any form of identification of the participant, and any such information, if detected, would lead to disqualification.<\/p>\n
