{"id":228117,"date":"2020-04-10T11:00:07","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T05:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=228117"},"modified":"2020-05-15T15:41:38","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T10:11:38","slug":"mohfw-has-not-suspended-the-pc-pndt-act-which-prohibits-sex-selection-before-or-after-conception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2020\/04\/10\/mohfw-has-not-suspended-the-pc-pndt-act-which-prohibits-sex-selection-before-or-after-conception\/","title":{"rendered":"MoHFW has not suspended the PC &#038; PNDT Act, which prohibits sex selection before or after conception"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">A section of the media is speculating that the PC&amp;PNDT (Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act 1994 has been suspended by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>It is clarified that MoHFW has not suspended the PC&amp;PNDT Act, which prohibits sex selection before or after conception.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In view of the ongoing lockdown, due of COVID19 pandemic, the Health Ministry has issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2020\/04\/05\/lockdown-covid-19-compliance-with-certain-renewal-maintenance-of-records-code-of-conduct-requirements-in-pre-conception-pre-natal-diagnostic-techniques-rules-suspended-till-30th-june2020\/\">Notification<\/a> dated April 4, 2020 to defer\/suspend certain provisions under the PC&amp;PNDT Rules 1996. These Rules pertain to applying for renewal of registration if falling due in this period, submission of reports by diagnostics centres by 5th day of the following month and submission of quarterly progress report (QPR) by the States\/UTs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is reiterated that each Ultrasound clinic, Genetic Counselling centre, Genetic Laboratory, Genetic Clinic and Imaging Centre would have to maintain all the mandatory records on day to day basis, as prescribed under the Law. It is only the submission deadlines to respective Appropriate Authorities which have been extended till June 30, 2020.
