Participating Teams got a chance to interact with fellow teams and work on that crucial last minute preparation before tomorrow\u2019s competitive rounds!<\/p>\n 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm: <\/em>The draw of lots and the exchange of memorials took place for participating teams \u00a0at the end of the orientation.<\/p>\n Day 2 (<\/u><\/strong>15th February<\/u><\/strong> 2020)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n 8:00 am: <\/em>Round Zero has begun.<\/p>\n All the best to our participants for what promises to be an engaging first day of proceedings!<\/p>\n 9:00 am: <\/em>Round Zero has ended.<\/p>\n 9:45 am: <\/em>Briefing for Judges has begun for round 01 and 02 of the competition. Judges for the preliminary rounds\u00a0 \u00a0 have arrived and the briefing process has begun. The judges, posing difficult questions found some surprisingly creative answers, albeit sometimes unconvincing. The teams concluded with sharp rebuttals that invited nods from the judges and the audience.<\/p>\n The second semi-final round, coming right at the business end of the competition, saw the judges throw difficult questions at the teams right from the beginning which were answered with great vigor. Both teams used their rebuttals cleverly to pick out flaws in the opponent\u2019s arguments and \u00a0conclude their arguments to put their cases to rest.<\/p>\n 1:15 pm:<\/em> All 02 fixtures of the Semi-Final Rounds have concluded.<\/p>\n 1:30 pm:<\/em> The draw of lots and exchange of memorials \u2013 for Final Rounds has begun.<\/p>\n The 02 participating teams for The Final Rounds are:<\/p>\n 1:45 pm:<\/em> The participating teams as well as the judges have proceeded to their lunch break.<\/p>\n 2:30 pm: <\/em>Briefing for Judges has begun for the Final round of the competition. Judges for the \u00a0Final round have arrived, and the briefing process has begun. The briefing will conclude in 30 minutes.<\/p>\n 3:15 pm:\u00a0<\/em>The Final Round has commenced.<\/p>\n The Judges for the Final Round are-<\/p>\n The Applicants begin with submissions, starting with the issue of trans-boundary harm. The Applicants submit that the Respondents’ introduction of grey bears has caused trans-boundary harm on the basis of the judgement in Nicaragua v. Costa Rica. The Judges do not accept this submission on the grounds mentioned. They have asked the speaker to refer to specific articles and commentaries.<\/p>\n The second speaker takes up the second issue. The judges have posed a question regarding Article 8(h) of the CBD. The Speaker has clarified and moved on with the context for the second issue, explaining the idea of range states and disputing the respondent’s claims. The Speaker makes an argument assuming, arguendo, the Applicant state as a range state, that the Applicant would be covered under an exception. The Judges have posed a question as to the interpretation of the treaty. The Speaker has clarified and moved onto the BERNE Convention. The Speaker has argued that the Applicant was justified in using measures as a result of the the trans-boundary harm caused to the Applicant State. The Judges have posed a question regarding the proportionality of the action of the Applicant to the harm. The Speaker has attempted to reply to the query. The Judges have questioned the speaker on the legal applicability of the draft conventions. The Speaker has satisfyingly replied to the question and concluded with the prayer.<\/p>\n The Respondents have begun with their arguments. The First Speaker has given context to the issues the respondents will be addressing. The Judges have questioned the Speaker with regard to the facts and the submissions made. The Speaker has made an attempt to clarify. The Judges have asked the Speaker to move onto his arguments, and further posed a question of interpretation. The Speaker has answered satisfyingly and moved on with his arguments. The Judges have questioned the actions of the Respondents and the foresee-ability of ‘significant harm’. The Speaker has answered the question and concluded his arguments. The Second Speaker has begun with her arguments regarding the actions of the Applicants on the Grey bears. The Judge has questioned the Speaker on the good practice in the Environment impact assessment with regard to climate change. The Speaker has attempted an answer. The Judges are not satisfied, but have asked the speaker to continue with her arguments. The Speaker is now addressing the exceptions which the Applicants are claiming will apply to them. The Judges are now questioning the reintroduction of the species made by the Respondents. The Speaker has replied with crisp answers and moved on with her arguments. The Judges have again put up the question of Good Practice and Cooperation. The Speaker submits that they attempted cooperation with the Applicants, but to no avail. The Judges, unsatisfied with the answer, and conclude. The Speaker has put forward the prayer and concluded.<\/p>\n The Applicants have made with their rebuttals, building on the questions that the Judges posed to the Respondents.\u00a0 <\/span>The Respondents have now taken the floor for their rebuttals, continuing the arguments they were making before. They have been questioned by the Judges on their rebuttal.
