The Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirapalli, in collaboration with SCC Online and Eastern Book Company as their knowledge partners, organized the National Mediation-Arbitration Competition [NMAC] between the 31st <\/sup>January to 2nd <\/sup>February, 2020.<\/p>\n

The competition witnessed participation from 19 universities from across the country, with around 60 Participants. Encompassing a unique theme of disputes in sports, the problem followed a very fresh pattern with several intricacies.The Competition is one of its kinds, as it featured two rounds including both Arbitration as well as mediation on the same problem, thereby testing the all-round skills of the participants and thus, enabling them to think out of the box. The Competition hosted eminent practitioners and arbitrators as judges to enhance the overall experience. The Event began with the arrival and registration of all the participants,followed by the inauguration ceremony, the draw of lots and memorial exchange.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Day 1<\/strong> saw the preliminary round 1 and 2 of the mediation\/arbitration session, along with the arbitral awards. The first day concluded with the announcement of the top 4 qualifying teams. Based on the results and performance of Day 1, the top 4 client-counsel teams and the top 4 mediators\/arbitrators qualified for the semi-finals on Day 2.<\/p>\n

Day 2<\/strong> saw the semi-finalists: National Law University, Jodhpur, West Bengal School of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata, Ram ManoharLahiya National Law University, Lucknow and University Institute of Legal Studies, Punjab Qualifying. The finalists included the Client Counsel teams of NUJS and WBNUJS along with the Arbitrators\/Mediators from Symbiosis Law School, Pune (SLS, Pune) and Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai (MNLU, Mumbai). The arbitration round was adjudged by Mr. Inbavijayan Veeraghavan, Dr.Anit George and Dr.AneeshPillai and the mediation round\u2019s panel of judges comprised of Ms. Uma Ramanahan, Ms. Chitra Narayananand Ms. Priyadarshini.<\/p>\n

The Best Med-Arb Team was bagged by Mr. Rohan C Govind N and Mr. K.R. Pruthvish representing NLUJ and Mr. ShubhankarMathur, the arbitrator, representing MNLU, Mumbai. The runner up award for best Med-Arb team was secured by Mr. Laksh Kawatra and Ms. AdhyaBajbai representing WBNUJS and Mr. Rishabh Vyas representing Symbiosis Law School, Pune The prizes were distributed for several other awards including Best Memorial and Best client counsel team which was secured by RMNLU and best mediator\/arbitrator was secured by MNLU,Mumbai. The Valedictory Ceremony concluded with the prize distribution with the judges. The Best Med-Arb Team won cash Prize of Rupees 15,000 and the runner up team won a cash prize of Rupees 8,000. The event was an overall success with the participants having an enlightening and wholesome learning experience.<\/p>\n
