The relevance of International Moot as a strategy to solve complex International Criminal Disputes is irrefutable. Its use and profile have seen a meteoric rise across the globe in the last few decades. Moot Court Competition is an emerging field of law and its robust enforcement becomes a prerequisite for ensuring that the environment remains competitive among the Law students. With the aim of fostering quality research, analysis, writing and oratory skills. Amity Law School, Noida is hosting the India National Qualifying Rounds of the most prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the year 2020 from 30th of January to 2nd February.<\/p>\n

The Compromis is the springboard for the Jessup Competition. Written by leading scholars of International Law, the compromis for Jessup, 2020 addresses multi-fora international litigation, the accountability of heads of State for war crimes, killer robots, and a wall.<\/p>\n

Professor Richard R. Baxter at Harvard Law School was the pioneer of The Jessup Competition, who worked with Professor Stephen M. Schwebel to create a courtroom simulation experience grounded in international law.<\/p>\n

The first ever round of the Jessup competition was held at Harvard University on 8th May, 1960. It was then known as the “International Law Moot”. The first Jessup problem was titled the “Cuban Agrarian Reform Case” and the path created then has been followed on since then with greater ardor and determination every year.<\/p>\n

With the success of the First Jessup Competition, the need for an organization to cater to the needs of the students interested in International Law came to light.This led to the idea and establishment of the Association of the Student International Law Societies by students from a number of campuses in the year 1962. In 1987 the Association was reconstituted as the International Law Students Association (ILSA) on account of its stupendous growth over the years. The furtherance of this endeavor was meant to be a greater success and thus, in May 1994, ILSA incorporated itself as a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n

Often referred to as the grand slam of moot competitions, the Philip C. Jessup Competition is the world\u2019s oldest and largest moot court competition that spans the globe with over 700 law schools across 100 countries.<\/p>\n

This competition is an extra-ordinary chance for the students in the legal arena to present their skills and talent. The participating teams will be presenting their oral and written arguments on behalf of the applicant as well as the respondent positions in a case between fictional countries before the International Court of Justice.This Competition will adjudge the best team of the India Qualifying Rounds for the same on the basis of legal arguments, both on account of the oratory skills and content, presentation, and research skills.<\/p>\n

Final teams from the Indian National Qualifying Rounds will be selected to represent India and compete in Washington, DC. India has won the Jessup World Cup in 1999 and 2013. We hope that this years event marks higher benchmarks and will be an unparalleled experience filled with motivation and knowledge<\/p>\n

1800 hours : <\/em>The second day has now concluded, the remaining preliminary rounds, the 4th and 5th rounds, are scheduled for tomorrow. At the end of the session the judges were pleased with the level of competition displayed by the teams and were all praises for the organisational skills displayed by the institution.<\/span> Mr. Kanishk Rana,<\/strong> who came across a mooter from his college days aptly said,” It’s always great to judge young, aspiring lawyers. It is more fun when you judge it with people you have competed with in your college days.”<\/span><\/p>\n
