DAY 3<\/strong> January 19, 2020<\/em><\/p>\n

This closes the reporting for the VI RMLNLU National Mediation Competition. <\/p>\n

6:45 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The award for the Best Team goes to NLSIU Bangalore on the basis of Preliminary rounds with a cash prize of Rs. 5000. Runners Up Negotiator goes to Kartik Arya, OP Jindal Global Law School, Sonepat and cash prize of Rs. 7,500.
\nThe 2 Temple Gardens Best Negotiator has been won by Anu Sagar, NALSAR Hyderabad and she is awarded with cash prize worth Rs. 15,000. Runner-Up Mediator is Naomi Manoj, NLSIU and is awarded a cash prize of Rs. 7,500. The 2 Temple Gardens Best Mediator is Shubangi, NLU Jodhpur, who is honored with a cash prize worth Rs. 15,000. Along with the cash prizes, they were given GAADR scholarship. The winners were also given a one year access card to SCC Online and the runners up were given a one year access to EBC Learning.<\/p>\n

Hon\u2019ble Vice Chancellor has delivered his address, lauding the participants for taking steps towards ADR mechanisms, in light of the shift towards out-of-court settlements as a preference over litigation.<\/p>\n

\nThe quarter-final rounds have ended. Breaks shall be announced at the social night organized for the participants, which provides an excellent platform to the participants to network and socialize in a light environment. <\/p>\n

\nThe quarter final rounds will commence in 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

\nBreaks into the Quarter-Final Rounds have been announced. The confidential information will be distributed in next 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

2:15 P.M.<\/strong>
\nThe second preliminary round has started and the problem was drafted by the Centre for Mediation and Conciliation,BCCI. The dispute was between Mr. Tanmay and One97 communications. The problem was based upon insolvency of the latter company and the concerns and issues of Mr. Tanmay who was one of the creditors. The rounds were intense and kept the judges intrigued.<\/p>\n

12:20 p.m.<\/strong>
\nThe first Preliminary Round commenced at 11:20 am. The problem was drafted by Ms. Varsha Manoj, an associate at AK Law Chambers. It concerned a dispute between a parent company MAISEL subsidary Aptex, responsible for modification of NH-65 into four lane highway, and Mr. Kamlesh who leased a quarry to the company for quarrying stones. The problem was drafted with the objective of focusing on the process of dispute resolution over the outcomes.<\/p>\n

11:20 a.m.<\/strong>
\nThe confidential information has been distributed to the participants and along with it the judges have been welcomed and debriefed about the problem along with other details. The first preliminary round of the competition is about to begin. <\/p>\n

DAY 1<\/strong> January 17, 2020<\/em><\/p>\n

\nThe Gala Dinner has come to an end.

8:30 p.m.<\/strong>
\nParticipants and assessors have begun arriving at the Gala Dinner organized by the Legal Aid Committee. The Gala Dinner is a grand event organized for visitors to socialize and network with fellow members of the legal fraternity, over delicious food. <\/p>\n

8:00 p.m.<\/strong>
\nThe VI RMLNLU National Mediation Competiton is officially declared open by Dr. V Visalakkshi, Head of Department and Dr. Manish Singh, Chairman, Legal Aid Committee, in the opening ceremony. Mr. Andrew Miller QC and Mr. Pascal Comvalius gave an idea to the participants on what to expect in the coming days.<\/p>\n

4:20 p.m.<\/strong>
\nParticipants are being shown a demo negotiation session, to better prepare them for the event. <\/p>\n

3:45 p.m.<\/strong>
\nThe briefing of negotiators and mediators for the competition has come to an end. Participants were informed of artful techniques to draw the negotiations closer to an amicable settlement. <\/p>\n

2 p.m.<\/strong>
\nThe Certificate Course was conducted by Mr. Andrew Miller QC of 2 Temple Gardens from 12 noon to 1:50 p.m. The course on ‘Mediation and Litigation – Best friends or Just Casual Acquaintances’ comprised of discussion and dialogue on a plethora of areas and nuances of the relationship between mediation and litigation. Mr. Miller discussed how mediation has grown from being seen as an ineffective alternative to a globally recognized mode of dispute resolution. The art of negotiation was also discussed. Challenges to the growth of mediation globally were also discussed by Mr. Miller.

\nThe course was attended by 150 students from different law universities spanning the boundaries of India.
\nThe session closed after an intense Q&A session. Questions asked ranged from improving dialogue during negotiation, to challenges to negotiation in high-profile cases. <\/p>\n
