{"id":223054,"date":"2019-12-10T10:30:45","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T05:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=223054"},"modified":"2021-07-30T09:43:47","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T04:13:47","slug":"special-group-protection-amendment-act-2019-receives-presidents-assent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2019\/12\/10\/special-group-protection-amendment-act-2019-receives-presidents-assent\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Protection Group (Amendment) Act, 2019 receives President&#8217;s assent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, 2019 after being cleared by both the Houses of Parliament received President&#8217;s assent on 09-12-2019.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>With this Act, now SPG would be provided only to Prime Minister and his immediate family members and to the former PM along with his family members for a period of 5 years from the date he ceases to hold the office of Prime Minister.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following is the amendment that would take place in the Special Protection Group Act, 1988:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Amendment of Section 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. In section 4 of the Special Protection Group Act, 1988,\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(i) for sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c(1) There shall be an armed force of the Union called the Special Protection Group for providing proximate security to,\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(a) the Prime Minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(b) any former Prime Minister and such members of his immediate family as are residing with him at the residence allotted to him, for a period of five years from the date he ceases to hold the office of Prime Minister.\u201d;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(ii) in sub-section (1A), for clause (b), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c(b) where the proximate security is withdrawn from a former Prime Minister, such proximate security shall also stand withdrawn from members of immediate family of such former Prime Minister.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Ministry of Law and Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, 2019 after being cleared by both the Houses of Parliament received President&#8217;s assent on 09-12-2019.
