Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies organised the 6th<\/sup> edition of its paramount annual event, 6th VIPS International Law Moot Court Competition, from 27th-29th September 2019.The 6th edition of International Law Moot Court Competition began on 27th September 2019. A total of 16 teams from various law schools participated in the event.<\/p>\n

The moot proposition of VIPS IMC\u201919 was based on PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW.<\/p>\n

The first day picked the pace with the registration of participating teams. The inaugural ceremony was convened at Vivekananda auditorium. The program marked its beginning with lighting of the lamp honoring goddess saraswati followed by words of wisdom by senior Advocate Mr.Rakesh Munjal President, SAARC LAW-India chapter who mentioned about the three P\u2019s i.e. Patience, Perseverance and Planning in reference to aspiring lawyers. He talked about the essentials of being a lawyer and emphasized upon the critical role that \u2018presentation\u2019 plays in the field of law. He also mentioned how in his time moots were not a part of the study regime and of the growing importance of moots in today\u2019s scenario. He spoke about importance of social interaction and said that law as a profession is very encouraging and one of the best profession where sky is the only limit. Prof.(Dr.) Venkata Rao, Former Vice chancellor, NLSIU Bangalore, Chairperson, VSLLS, VIPS shared his personal experiences of working with Late Mr. Ram Jethmalani, Former Chairman of Indian Bar Council and former President of Supreme Court Bar Association. He said that all students in the institution would be a foot soldier in the cause of making this journey pleasant and comfortable. With regard to his personal experience, in his own humorous way he elaborated about the art of court craft and courtship, he mentioned that \u201claw is a jealous mistress and not a jealous wife because a wife is always secure and does not demand attention 24*7 whereas a mistress does.\u201d Metaphorically, he related law with a mistress who needs a lot of attention and research. It was followed by a zealous speech of Prof. Dr.Rashmi Salpekar, Dean, VSLLS who greeted the participating teams which motivated them to make the best of their time and capabilities. The ceremony came to an end with the vote of thanks by Prof. Shilpa Khatri Babbar, Director (Academic and Student Welfare), VIPS.The day ended with draw of lots and exchange of memorials.<\/p>\n

The preliminary round began on 28th<\/sup> September with 16 teams from across the country participating in the competition. The main issue of the VIPS IMC\u201919 was regarding the space international law, including the status of spies as prisoners of war, that they shall be given a counselor access and compensational issues between The republic of Aldran (applicant) and The state of Naboo (respondent) which was brought in front of International Court of Justice.<\/p>\n

The teams were extremely confident and gracefully presented their arguing and mooting capabilities and confidently surpassed all the challenges and tricky quotations of judges with sureness formally presenting their claims.The preliminary rounds ended with 8 teams being selected for the quarter final round of the competition. The teams were filled with immense ardour to endeavour victory and as quarter finals ended top 4 teams made it to Semi-finals of the competition. The day ended with declaration of results of the quater finals and exchange of memorial for semi finals.<\/p>\n

With the inception of Semi Finals on 28th<\/sup> September, Day 3 of the competition begun in full swing and the participants argued with great exuberance. The Teams that ultimately made it into the finals after a heated argument amongst the semi finalists were 1902 and 1907.<\/p>\n

The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by our honourable dignitries Professor M. KoteshwarRao, Secretary General of Indian Society of International Law, Hon\u2019ble Ms Justice RekhaPalli, Judge, Delhi High Court and Hon\u2019ble Ms Justice Pratibha M Singh, Judge, Delhi High Court. While addressing the ceremony, they emphasised upon the importance of the multi disciplinary character of the noble profession and the role of women in this field.<\/p>\n

After the cut-throat competition between the finalists of the International Law Moot Court Competition 2019 following teams emereged as the winners-<\/p>\n

-Amity Law School, Delhi won the 6th VIPS IMC\u201919<\/p>\n

-The second position along with the best memorial was bagged by School of Law, Christ University, Bengaluru<\/p>\n
