approves the Patent Prosecution Highway programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for the adoption of the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) <\/strong><strong>programme<\/strong><strong> by the Indian Patent Office (IPO) under the Controller General of Patents, Designs &amp; Trade Marks, India (CGPDTM) with patent offices of various other interest countries or regions.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The said programme will initially commence between the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Indian Patent Office on a pilot basis for a period of three years only.\u00a0 Under this Pilot programme, the Indian Patent Office may receive patent applications n certain specified technical fields only, namely, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Physics, Civil, Mechanical, Textiles, Automobiles and Metallurgy while JPO may receive applications in all fields of technology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">PPH programme would lead to the following benefits for the Indian IP office:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Reduction in time to dispose of patent applications.<\/li>\n<li>Reduction in pendency of patent applications.<\/li>\n<li>Improvement in quality of search and examination of patent applications.<\/li>\n<li>An opportunity for Indian inventors including MSMEs and Startups of India to get an accelerated examination of their patent applications in Japan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ambit of the programme may be extended in the future, as decided by the Commerce &amp; Industry Minister.\u00a0 The patent offices will frame their own guidelines
