The aim of the Symposium is to provide a platform for a discussion on Contemporary Constitutional Law Issues in India. The symposium is open for participation to students, researchers, faculty members, academicians, lawyers and legal experts in the field of Constitutional Law.<\/p>\n

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR THE PAPER PRESENTATION COMPETITION<\/p>\n

I. ELIGIBILITY:<\/p>\n

Students currently pursuing an LL.B.(Hons.)\/LL.B. \/LL.M. from a recognized university and faculty members of law are eligible to send in entries.<\/p>\n

II. STRUCTURE:<\/p>\n

The manuscripts will be subject to the review by the editorial board of NLIU Law Review. Manuscripts selected by the Technical and Content Review Board of the NLIU Law Review, will be sent for an external Peer review. The short-listing of top ten* manuscripts will be done on the basis of evaluation of the Editorial Board and the Peers of the NLIU Law Review. On confirmation of participation in the symposium and after the payment of the registration fees, shortlisted manuscripts will be published as a special issue of Volume IX of NLIU Law Review. No publication fee will be charged and travel fare for shortlisted participants will be reimbursed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

* Ten is a tentative figure. Final decision on the number of shortlisted manuscripts will be taken by the organisers.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

III. THEMES:<\/p>\n

The paper submissions and presentations by the author(s) must strictly conform to original articles within the theme of\u00a0\u201cContemporary Constitutional Law Issues in India\u201d<\/em>. A suggestive list of topics has been provided below in order to aid the participants, however participants are free to include any issues within the main theme.<\/p>\n

  1. Independence of the judiciary and judicial appointments
    \na. Judicial activism versus judicial overreach
    \nb. Problems with the current system of judicial appointments
    \nc. Recusal of judges: Need for regulation?<\/em><\/li>\n
  2. Nature of the federal structure of India
    \na. The constitutional legitimacy of the abrogation of Article 370
    \nb. A constitutional analysis of the 2019 Karnataka political crisis<\/em><\/li>\n
  3. Impact of statutory developments on constitutional rights
    \na. Introduction of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2019
    \nb. Introduction of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019<\/em><\/li>\n
  4. Reintroduction of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019<\/em><\/li>\n
  5. Constitutionality of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2019<\/em><\/li>\n
  6. Any other constitutional law topic with contemporary relevance in India.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    IV. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:<\/p>\n

    Articles:\u00a0<\/em>Manuscripts under this category should be within 5000-8000 words long. Co-authorship of papers\u00a0(maximum two)<\/em>\u00a0among individuals from the same, or different institutions is allowed. The manuscripts under this category must be of a highly analytical nature where the author(s) arrive at a definite conclusion pertaining to the topic.<\/p>\n

    Abstract:<\/em>\u00a0Each manuscript must contain an abstract of not more than 300 words. This is inclusive of the above mentioned word limit of 5000-8000 words.<\/p>\n

    Citations:\u00a0<\/em>Citations must conform to standards laid down in the\u00a0Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th 2015)<\/em>. Submissions must use only footnotes as a form of citation. Substantive footnoting is not permitted for manuscripts for any of the articles.<\/p>\n

    *Kindly note that the word limit is exclusive of footnotes. Strict adherence to the word limit is highly advised.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

    V. FORMATTING:<\/p>\n

    The following format must be strictly adhered to for all the submissions;<\/p>\n

    Title<\/em>: Times New Roman, size-15, Bold, 2.0 line spacing, centre-aligned;\u00a0Abstract<\/em>: Times New Roman, size-11, Italicized, 1.5 line spacing, justified, Margins of 2.0;\u00a0Main Body<\/em>: Times New Roman, size-12, 1.15 line spacing, justified;\u00a0Heading<\/em>: Times New Roman, size-14, Bold, 1.5 line spacing, centre-aligned;\u00a0Sub-headings<\/em>: Times New Roman, size-13, Italicized, 1.15 line spacing, centre-aligned;\u00a0Footnotes<\/em>: Times New Roman, size-10, 1.0 line spacing, justified;\u00a0Margins<\/em>: one inch (2.54 cm) on all four sides.<\/p>\n

    VI. REWARDS:<\/p>\n

    The winner(s) of the symposium will be awarded prize money of Rs. 20,000\/- The second best\u00a0\u00a0 participant(s) will receive prize money of Rs. 15,000\/- The third best participant(s) will receive a prize money of Rs. 10,000\/-. We also have a best manuscript award of Rs. 5000\/-.<\/p>\n

    VII. SUBMISSION DEADLINE:<\/p>\n

    The original manuscripts must be sent to\u00a0lawreview@nliu.ac.in<\/a>\u00a0by 25th\u00a0November, 2019, 23:59 hours. The email must contain the manuscript in .doc\/docx format. The email must also contain a cover letter containing the name(s) of the authors, the institution, the course and the year of study along with a declaration about the originality of the manuscript.
