{"id":218361,"date":"2019-08-19T10:30:30","date_gmt":"2019-08-19T05:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=218361"},"modified":"2019-08-19T10:10:53","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T04:40:53","slug":"usage-of-atms-free-atm-transactions-clarifications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2019\/08\/19\/usage-of-atms-free-atm-transactions-clarifications\/","title":{"rendered":"Usage of ATMs \u2013 Free ATM transactions \u2013 Clarifications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Clarification issued by Reserve Bank of India\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>It has come to our notice that transactions that have failed due to technical reasons, non-availability of currency in ATMs, etc., are also included in the number of free ATM transactions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It is hereby clarified that transactions which fail on account of technical reasons like hardware, software, communication issues; non-availability of currency notes in the ATM; and other declines ascribable directly \/ wholly to the bank\/service provider; invalid PIN\/validations; etc., shall not be counted as valid ATM transactions for the customer. Consequently, no charges therefor shall be levied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Non-cash withdrawal transactions (such as balance enquiry, cheque book request, payment of taxes, funds transfer, etc.), which constitute \u2018on-us\u2019 transactions (i.e., when a card is used at an ATM of the bank which has issued the card) shall also not be part of the number of free ATM transactions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This directive is issued under Section 10(2) read with Section 18 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (Act 51 of 2007).<\/p>\n<hr
