{"id":217940,"date":"2019-08-12T12:00:47","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T06:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=217940"},"modified":"2021-07-30T09:52:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T04:22:39","slug":"president-gives-assent-to-consumer-protection-bill-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2019\/08\/12\/president-gives-assent-to-consumer-protection-bill-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"President gives assent to &#8212; Consumer Protection Bill, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President gives its approval for the <strong>Consumer Protection Bill, 2019<\/strong> which aims to protect the rights of consumers by establishing authorities for timely and effective administration and settlement of consumers\u2019 dispute.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Bill will replace the more than three decades old Consumer Protection Act, 1986.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following Act of Parliament received the assent of the President on the 09-08-2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Consumer Protection Act, 2019<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An Act to provide for the protection of the interests of consumers and for the said purpose, to establish authorities for timely and effective administration and settlement of consumers&#8217; disputes and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This new legislation will ease the overall process of consumer grievance redressal. Further, it proposes setting up of a\u00a0<strong>Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA)<\/strong>\u00a0to promote, protect and enforce the rights of consumers as a class. The CCPA would make interventions to prevent consumer detriment arising from unfair trade practices. The agency can also initiate class action, including enforcing recall, refund and return of products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There will be an exclusive law dealing with <strong>Product Liability<\/strong>.
