Gujarat National Law University is pleased to offer \u00a0Certificate Course on\u00a0 “Emerging Technologies and the Law”\u00a0 from July 29-August 2, 2019 .<\/p>\n

About the course<\/strong><\/p>\n

Science and technology\u00a0\u00a0especially emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, genomics,\u00a0 neuroscience, and block chain are advancing at unprecedented rate.\u00a0.\u00a0Law is affected by these emerging technologies in two primary ways.\u00a0\u00a0First, law is called up on to help society govern technology and its potential impacts, both ex ante (regulation) and ex post (liability).\u00a0\u00a0Second, the practice of law itself is being affected and altered by technology in unprecedented ways. This course will provide an overview of both aspects of this growing intersection between law and technology.<\/p>\n

Resource person<\/strong><\/p>\n

The course has been drafted and\u00a0shall\u00a0\u00a0be conducted by\u00a0\u00a0Gary Marchant, Ph.D., J.D., M.P.P.\u00a0 Prof Marchant\u00a0serves as the Regents\u2019 Professor and Lincoln Professor of Emerging Technologies, Law & Ethics, and Faculty Director of the Center for Law, Science & Innovation, at the Sandra Day O\u2019Connor College of Law, Arizona State University (ASU).\u00a0\u00a0Professor Marchant\u2019s research interests include the governance of emerging technologies, legal aspects of personalized medicine, use of genetic information in the legal system, legal aspects of risk assessment and risk management, and the application of science and technology in the legal system.\u00a0 He teaches courses such as Law, Science & Technology; Artificial Intelligence & the Law; The Law of Block chain and Crypto currencies; Genetics and the Law; Biotechnology: Science, Law and Policy; Health Care Technologies; and Big Data, Privacy, and Emerging Technologies.
\nProfessor Marchant\u00a0 has served on six National Academy of Sciences study committees. He\u00a0 has been the principal investigator on several major grants, and has organized dozens of academic conferences and workshops on law and science issues.<\/p>\n
