{"id":209807,"date":"2019-02-12T12:36:26","date_gmt":"2019-02-12T07:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=209807"},"modified":"2019-02-12T12:36:26","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T07:06:26","slug":"muzaffarpur-shelter-home-case-m-nageswara-rao-found-guilty-of-contempt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2019\/02\/12\/muzaffarpur-shelter-home-case-m-nageswara-rao-found-guilty-of-contempt\/","title":{"rendered":"Muzaffarpur shelter home case: M Nageswara Rao found guilty of contempt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Supreme Court<\/strong>: A bench headed by Ranjan Gogoi, CJ has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the former CBI interim director M Nageshwar Rao in\u00a0the contempt notice issued against him by the court for transferring the CBI officer probing the Muzaffarpur shelter home cases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attorney General KK Venugopal appearing for CBI accepted before the Court that it was a series of mistakes as they have not done at this wilfully and that they have unconditionally apologised.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CJI, however, said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Contempt has been committed. So there will be a mark on his career&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To this the Attorney General pleaded that M Nageshwar Rao\u00a0has an unblemished track record of 32 years, hence, a merciful approach be adopted as he has tendered apologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apart from the aforementioned fine, the Court also ordered the former interim CBI director to sit in one corner of the court till the court rises for the day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, on February 7, th<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.scconline.com\/post\/2019\/02\/07\/muzaffarpur-shelter-home-sexual-assault-case-transferred-from-bihar-to-delhi\/\">e Court had ordered the transfer of the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual assault case from Bihar to a court in New Delhi<\/a> and had summoned the former CBI director to explain\u00a0the transfer of the CBI officer AK Sharma probing the sexual assault.<\/p>\n<p
