Dr. RMLNLU, in collaboration with Eastern Book Company, has successfully conducted the sixth edition of RMLNLU-SCC Online International Media Law Moot Court Competition from 9th-11th March 2018. The team comprising Abhijeet Chakraborty, Mansa Venkatachalam, and Anushka Sinha from GNLU, Gandhinagar has won the competition, while the team comprising Aidan O’Callaghan, Michael Docker, and Fraser Lawiance from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia has emerged as the runner-up.\"\"<\/div>\n
Aidan O’Callaghan from Macquarie University also bagged the Best Speaker award. The Best Memorial award was grabbed this year by the team comprising Aditya Agarwal, Shreyas Shridhar, Harsh Vardhan Singh and Aditya Pratap Singh (Junior Researcher) from NUJS, Kolkata. The Winning team, the Runner-up Team, and the Best Memorial Team were also awarded 10 Subscriptions of the Practical Lawyer magazine, one-year subscription of SCC Online Web Edition (Platinum), and a copy of ‘Law Lexicon with Maxims<\/em>‘ by Sumeet Malik.<\/div>\n

RMLNLU-SCC Online Moot was first organized in the year 2013, with the aim to foster interest in media law amongst the student fraternity. The competition has since gained more and more reputation with each edition, by maintaining high standards in terms of judging quality, hospitalization, and organization. Consequently, the tournament has also been accorded the Mooting Premier League (MPL) status by Legally India.<\/div>\n
This year, the competition witnessed record registration from forty-seven colleges, and after memorial-knockout thirty teams were selected to battle for the winner’s trophy. While the moot registered its first foreign entry last year from the National University of Singapore, this year three foreign teams from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia participated in the competition. The final rounds of the moot were judged by Justice D.K. Arora, Justice R.R. Awasthi, and Justice A.R. Masoodi of the Allahabad High Court, Dr. K.A. Pandey, Associate Professor, RMLNLU, and Mr. Aakash Prasad, Advocate, Allahabad High Court. \"\"<\/div>\n

During the valedictory ceremony, Justice Masoodi recalled what Dr. Pramod Kr. Dwivedi, his Jurisprudence Professor, used to say: while a law student must ask what the law is, a practicing advocate must know where the law is. Justice D.K. Arora gave five principles – discipline, determination, dedication, honesty, and integrity – that, if followed would help every law student, irrespective of her career choice. Mr. Sumain Malik, Exec. Director, Eastern Book Company, used this opportunity to talk about ‘William (the Conqueror) and Blockchain’. Interestingly, William found no mention in Mr. Malik’s speech, since he himself admitted that he didn’t know much history. Rather, he chose to discuss how Blockchain technology would revamp the world of currency and contracts. In the end, Mr. Malik pronounced, “Long live William the Conqueror, whosoever he was.”<\/div>\n
