The 14th Foundation Day of Gujarat National Law University was celebrated with great enthusiasm on the 17th July 2017. The Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Vijay Rupani graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The event was also graced by the Hon\u2019ble Chief Justice of Gujarat, Mr R. Subhash Reddy, Hon\u2019ble Law Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Pradeepsinh Jadeja as distinguished Guests of Honour.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Bimal Patel, Director GNLU addressed the audience and emphasised on the importance of a research-based model in ensuring that there are sustained results in academics, debates, moots, conferences, symposiums and publications. He expressed his vision for the University, and remarked that the University has done exceedingly well in its endeavour to build a repository of knowledge while fostering a culture of sustainable development. He concluded that the University’s mantra was to pay no heed to competition, and follow the tenets of visualisation, planning, acting and achieving.<\/p>\n
This was followed by the address of the Hon\u2019ble Law Minister of Gujarat, Shri Pradeepsinh Jadeja, who heralded GNLU as the nationwide pioneer in terms of legal education. He praised the University\u2019s efforts towards establishing a niche in quality legal education<\/p>\n
Hon\u2019ble Chief Justice Mr Reddy commended GNLU\u2019s role in imparting quality education to budding law students and its continuous efforts towards honing them into smart, knowledgeable legal professionals. This, he believed, would be the cornerstone in solving the country\u2019s legal problems including the perennial backlog of cases. His advice to the student community touched\u00a0upon the importance of observing discipline throughout one\u2019s academic career, and the fascinating challenges that litigation beholds a student who chooses the profession.<\/p>\n
The Hon\u2019ble Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani emphasised the importance of the legal profession by stating that Judiciary is one of the pillars of democracy. He expressed his belief that GNLU students would contribute towards the smooth functioning of society by spearheading \u2018Justice for All, Appeasement for None\u2019. He believed that the new generation of legal professionals, would prove to be the catalyst in improving the credibility of the judiciary in the eyes of the common man. He went on to highlight that development would inevitably lead to the requirement of new laws, and the need for an efficient legal system has never been greater. He concluded by saying that he hoped that students of GNLU would play an instrumental role in developing an efficient legal system in the near future.<\/p>\n
The dignitaries then released the GNLU Annual Report 2016 and the GNLU Newsletter. The event also saw the distribution of various prizes to the students, faculty and administrative staff members which was followed by cultural programmes. A number of faculty members and students displayed their talent in a variety of performances including theatre, songs, traditional dances, and a yoga demonstration.<\/p>\n
