Supreme Cour<\/strong>t: The bench of J.S. Khehar, CJ and Dr. D. Y. Chandrachud asked the Central Government to apprise it within a week as to whether it is going to amend the election law or rules for enabling non-resident Indians (NRIs) to vote in elections in India by way of E-voting<\/p>\n

The Centre and the Election Commission submitted before the Court that they have agreed to the proposal in principle and the only issue is the ways to effect it and that\u00a0NRIs can be allowed to vote through postal ballot by either changing the Representation of the People Act, 1951 or by amending the rules made under the Act.<\/p>\n

The Court was hearing the petitions filed by NRIs Nagender Chindam and Shamseer VP.<\/p>\n
