As reported by The Hindu<\/em>, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has stayed the operation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulations of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017 <\/a>notified by the Central Government on May 23, 2017, banning the sale and purchase of cattle for slaughter in animal\/livestock markets.<\/p>\n

Hearing a PIL challenging the constitutional validity of the Rules, the Division Bench of Justices M.V. Muralidaran and C.V. Karthikeyan issued notice to the State and Central Governments.<\/p>\n
