{"id":104921,"date":"2017-02-09T13:58:29","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T08:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/?p=104921"},"modified":"2017-02-27T17:18:28","modified_gmt":"2017-02-27T11:48:28","slug":"stay-on-cic-order-directing-payment-of-compensation-for-extra-detention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scconline.com\/blog\/post\/2017\/02\/09\/stay-on-cic-order-directing-payment-of-compensation-for-extra-detention\/","title":{"rendered":"Stay on CIC order directing payment of compensation for extra detention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Delhi High Court:<\/strong> The Single Bench of Sanjeev Sachdeva, J. has stayed the order of Central\u00a0Information Commission, whereby, it has directed the Public Information Officer of Tihar Jail to\u00a0pay compensation to the respondent for keeping him under extra detention.\u00a0The CIC, by the impugned order, had also directed the petitioner to frame\u00a0policy\/guideline\/regulation for a system of resolving disputes regarding remission and paying\u00a0compensation to prisoners who lost their personal liberty due to extra detention.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Court observed that perusal of the order, prima facie, showed that the CIC has exceeded the\u00a0jurisdiction conferred upon it by the Right to Information Act, 2005.
