Sujata V Manohar, Former Judge of Supreme Court received the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honor conferred in Madrid by the King of Spain on 5-07-2021.

 About the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honor

 The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honor is a new international recognition, established by the World Jurist Association and presented for the first time this year.

The honor was bestowed on eight distinguished female jurists and leaders from around the world including Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza, Vice-President of the International Criminal Court, Maite Oronoz, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, Navi Pillay, Judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa, Rosario Silva de Lapuerta, Vice- President of the European Court of Justice, Sujata Manohar, retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Young Hye Kim, Senior Judge, Commissioner at National Human Rights Commission.

The World Jurist Association awards the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honor in recognition of inspiring women jurists who fight to defend and strengthen the rule of law and to consolidate society’s advances in gender equity.

Mrs. Justice Sujata Vasant Manohar, B.Sc., B.L., Born on 28th August, 1934. Educated at Anandilal Podar High School, Bombay; Elphinstone College, Bombay, Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, U.K. And Lincoln’s Inn, London. Enrolled Advocate on 14th February, 1958 at Bombay. Practised in the Bombay High Court on the Original Side. Appointed Assistant Government Pleader, City Civil Court, Bombay during 1970-71. Appointed Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court from 23rd January, 1978. Appointed permanent Judge on 28.11.1978. Appointed as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court with effect from 15.1.1994 (A.N.). Transferred as Chief Justice of Kerala High Court with effect from 21.4.1994. Appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from 8.11.1994. Retired on 27.8.1999.
