On February 19, 2021, the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments (Second Amendment) Act, 2020 has come into force. The Amendment Act modifies the provision relating to annual leave with wages in Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1961.

The Amendment modifies the proviso under Section 15 of the Act and states that the total number of the days of leave that may be carried forward to a succeeding year shall not exceed forty five days.

Before the Amendment, the proviso stated that-

“the total number of the days of leave that may be carried forward to a succeeding year shall not exceed thirty days in the case of an adult and forty days in the case of a young person”
