It is a matter of jubilance and glory for us to acknowledge that Amity Law School (AUUP), Noida, will be organizing the 10th Edition of Amity International Moot Court Competition for the year 2020.
Over the years Amity International Moot Court Competition has gained tremendous reputation for its flawless organization, competency of the participants from top universities gathering from across the continents and the immaculate selection of judges for the various rounds who are not only experts in their respective fields but also masseur for the students as they impart their wisdom and guidance.
The reviews that the Competition has so far received have been more than cherishing and the organizing team very proudly continues to strive in order to put together a competition that is anticipated by the participants as well as the students of Amity Law School every year.
Every competition is about the participants and their competency more than anything else and in this respect as well, the Competition has surpassed all expectations as it is getting ready to host students of both Top Indian and International Law Universities from all over the globe for the first time in its 10th edition! Further, the moot problem typically involves complex issues of international law, ranging from State responsibility to the law of sea and maritime rights.
We hope this competition will be an excellent opportunity for all the participants to hone their advocacy skills and widen their intellectual horizons.

BRIEF ITINERARY OF THE EVENT:
Day 1: (9th October) Preliminary Rounds 01 and 02.
Day 2: (10th October) Researcher’s Test, Results of the Prelims, Draw of Lots for Semi-Final Round, Semi-Final Round.
Day 3: (11th October) Final Round, Valedictory Ceremony.
Day -1
11:45 hours : It’s finally here and the wait is over! All teams are excited for the virtual version of the 10th Amity International Moot Court Competition. We begin shortly.

11:45 hours : Fasten your seat belts and brace yourselves, the moment we have all been waiting for has finally come!
11:50 hours : Amity welcomes law students from across the globe with lots of ardour and vehemence.
11:55 hours : There is a palpable nervous excitement among the participants who are keenly waiting for their preliminary rounds to begin.

12:00 hours : Preliminary round 01 commences. The real fight for the precious trophy begins here.
13:10 hours : The competition has taken off on full steam. The enthusiasm among the participants is on full display as the teams take on one another in a challenge that is as exciting as it is invigorating. As the teams charge ahead with their impressive arguments, debating skills and counter views, the session, for sure, is set to get more engrossing.
13:30 hours : The competitors are handling a barrage of questions from the Judges.
13:50 hours : Like a drowning man clutching at straws, the competitors make one last ditch attempt to convey the strength of their case, and with that Preliminary Round 01 comes to an end.
13:55 hours : Advocate Ramit Rana of Delhi High Court from court room 01A mentioned that it was an amazing experience being in the virtual court room and wished the whole team luck.
15:05 hours : Hustle Rustle the Preliminary Round 2 has commenced.
The silence of the courtrooms has been broken by the respective bailiffs as they orate their scripts.
15:30 hours : The speakers are persuasive and are also giving a tough fight. One can’t do anything but enjoy this cutthroat exchange of words between the two parties.
16:40 hours : The teams seem to be meticulous and are taking care of minor nuances of the arguments and protocols.
16:45 hours : Ms Trupati Panigrahi said that the organization of the virtual moot was flawless.
16:50 hours : The court clerk rung the warning bell. All good things must come to an end. Each and every argument from the 2nd preliminary rounds were a treat to the eyes, music to the ears and food for the brain. Finally, the speaker from the respondent side uttered the words, “Therefore, in the light of aforesaid arguments….” thus, announcing the end of their arguments.
16:55 hours : Today’s interplay of words between the teams from all over the globe was truly mind tumbling.

Day -2
07:20 hours : Top of the morning to you! Another day, another dawn and the journey continues. We are back today with more live updates. As the second day begins 4 teams will battle in the Semi-Finals as well, the Researchers’ Test will be conducted today!
So, participants and researchers buckle up, cause this is about to be a bumpy ride! The results for the teams advancing to the Semi-Finals and the draw of lots for the same will be declared soon!
07:45 hours : The results for the teams qualifying for the Semi Finals (in no particular order) are as follows:

The Honourable Judges for the Semi-Final rounds are:
Court Room : 1
T.C. 53A vs. T.C. 33R
12:30 hours : All the participants have joined the court rooms. Both the teams are eagerly waiting for the rounds to begin so that they can present their arguments.
12:40 hours : Speaker 1 from T.C. 53 begins the argument. The judges keenly listen to her and it’s apparent that they are formulating questions in their mind. Tension is rising but the speaker is presenting the facts clearly and concisely. The opposite party is listening attentively.
12:55 hours : The judges are trying to fluster the speaker by questioning. There is an intense back and forth questioning going on in the court. The speaker is gathering her facts and thoughts and continuing with her arguments.
13:03 hours : The speaker concludes her arguments.
13:05 hours : Speaker 2 from T.C. 53 commences by giving a brief outline of his speech.
13:20 hours : The intricacies of the case are being closely monitored by the bench. The judges look stern and serious and are focused on the content of the speaker’s speech.
13:25 hours : Speaker 2 finally settles his speech. Thus bringing an end to the arguments of the Applicants.
13:30 hours : Speaker 1 from T.C. 33 commences with arguments for the Respondents.
13:35 hours : The court is encapsulated by a sense of tranquility as the speaker continues with her speech.
13:40 hours : The judges are listening to the speaker intently and looking for an opportunity to question the speaker.
13:48 hours : The speaker now ends the case.
13:50 hours : Speaker 2 from T.C. 33 continues the Respondent’s argument.
13:55 hours : The Speaker is making his way through his arguments and getting his points across. Fluency of the speaker is strong which adds to the arguments placed.
14:05 hours : The bench is amiable and seems quite content with her submissions.
14:07 hours : The judges begin asking him questions about his contentions. The speaker keeps calm and tries to answer the judges.
14:15 hours : The arguments of the Respondents come to an end.

Rebuttals CR:1-
The Applicants move forward with their rebuttals. They raise a question and the tussle ensues.
Sur Rebuttals –
The Speaker from the opposite party efficiently defends all the arguments raised and does not fumble which show their command over the moot issue.
14:30 hours : The court is adjourned.
Thus, bringing an end to the proceedings of Court Room 1.
The Participants and the Audience are requested to now exit the Virtual Courtroom so that the Honourable Judges can now deliberate over today’s proceedings.
Semi-Finals
Court Room : 2
T.C. 82A vs T.C. 51R
12:40 hours : The courtroom is silent and brimming with anxiety. All the participants seem tensed but gearing up for the fight.
12:45 hours : The proceedings have started in Court Room 2. Speaker 1 from T.C. 82 is addressing the Judges, the counsel is confident and presents the arguments with utmost zeal.
The teams are well versed with facts and the regulations.
12:55 hours : He has a clear voice and presents his stance with full belief and force.
The judges begin asking him questions about his contentions. The speaker keeps calm and tries to answer the judges.
13:03 hours : The speaker finally ends his argument and Speaker 2 begins her arguments.
13:06 hours : The speaker starts off with a properly sketched outline of the speech and puts forward the arguments one after the other.
13:15 hours : She speaks in a dulcet tone and is eloquent.
The bench is amiable and seems quite content with her submissions.
13:20 hours : There are continous questions and cross questions by the Honourable Judges, the brighter side to look at is that they remain firm and confident.
13:29 hours : The arguments of the Applicants finally come to an end.
13:30 hours : Speaker 1 from T.C. 51 (Respondents) begins with her arguments.
Specifying the time distribution, the agent starts with the issues.
13:36 hours : The speaker is articulate in her presentation and thorough with the proposition.
The judges begin onslaught of questions, but the agent provides full justice to the queries with her convincing arguments.
13:50 hours : The judges are relentless and are leaving no stones unturned. There are several dimensions that the agent adds to the case thus making it more interesting.
14:00 hours : After a long series of questions, Speaker 1 finally wraps up her argument.
14:02 hours : Speaker 2 from the Respondent’s side now carries the mantle of the case. She is straightforward with her arguments.
14:16 hours : The Speaker is facing all the questions placed in front of her by Judges head-on which in turn is inviting several mind-boggling queries from the bench. And by listening to this to and fro between the counsel and the Judges, one can easily infer that this session is going to last longer than expected.
14:35 hours : The Respondents move on to the prayer and thus rest their case.

Rebuttals CR:2-
The Applicants come up with some really demolishing arguments against the Respondents. Every single rebuttal advanced by them were crisp and top-notch.
Sur-Rebuttals-
In response to the rebuttals, the Respondents gave apt replies which seemed to be convincing enough.
14:50 hours : The court is adjourned.
Thus, bringing an end to the proceedings of Court Room 2.
The Judges give their valuable feedbacks to the teams.
The teams and the audience are asked to exit the courtroom so that the Judges can now deliberate over today’s proceedings.
And with this, the Semi-Final Rounds come to an end.
Now, we eagerly await the results of the Semi-Finals!
We can’t wait to find out that who exactly are those 2 teams who’ll face off against one another in the final fight for the title!

Even though we had to bid farewell to some of the teams, we hope that we were able to enrich their time spent with us. We hope they walked away with a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment. We would want nothing more than to see them again next year!

The past 2 days have been truly memorable for everyone.
The gongs are beaten and the bells are rung as Amity International Moot Court Competition moves forward to the fiery stages with the commencement of Finals. The teams are armoured with their arguments and memorials in their arsenal. The nail biting atmosphere has everyone on the edge of their seats. May victory serve the worthy and may the light of knowledge grace us all.
The Final Fight for the Title is About to Begin!
09:45 hours : Our Honourable Chairman Amity Law School, Prof. (Dr.) D.K Bandyopadhyay is addressing the Final Round Judges.
09:47 hours : Our Faculty Convener Dr. Bhavna Batra greets the judges and thanks them for their esteemed presence.

Speaker 2 affirms that she will be dealing with the third issue. She is confident to no one’s surprise.
After a 3-day long fierce competition, the time to draw the curtains has come as the valedictory function is about to begin. The virtual stage is set up and the audience are ready to recognize the hard work and team spirit displayed by the participants.
Everyone is encapsulated by a sense of tranquility as the valedictory function commences.

16:27 hours : Our Additional Director and Joint Head (Prof.) Dr. Shefali Raizada started addressing the gathering.
She begins by welcoming everyone present for the occasion. She continues by describing the Competition as one of the best among the present moot competitions and also congratulates the moot court society for its organization. She strongly feels that this edition of AIM added a golden feather in the legacy of ALS.
16:35 hours : Next, our Additional Director and Joint Head (Prof.) Dr. Aditya Tomer started addressing the audience.
He reflects on the motto of the college to proceed towards achieving excellence and regards this competition as just one of the many ways to achieve the same.
He thanks every individual associated with this Competition and has a special word for the extraordinary participants and wishes them all the best in their future endeavours.
16:40 hours : Our Honourable Chairman Amity Law School, Prof. (Dr.) D.K Bandyopadhyay begins by welcoming everyone and thanking our Founder President Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan for his support.
He congratulates the college for the successful organization of the Competition and stresses on the growing culture of mooting in the legal fraternity. He added that he was exhilarated that AIM received participation from overseas on its 10th edition.
16:44 hours : Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anchitya Malla Barua from the Gauhati High Court starts off with his speech to enlighten the gathering.
Highlights of his Speech:
Honourable Lordship, started off by talking about the significance of the concept of moot courts and how they became popular in India in the mid-90s.
- He stressed on developing the quality of being articulate in the court.
- He draws attention of the audience to the theme of the 10th edition of Amity International Moot Court Competition – Law of Sea. And added that “we have to prepare law students not only for our country but also internationally.”
- He applauds the college for conducting the competition in an efficient manner.
- He goes ahead with comparing the standard of Amity International Moot Court Competition to other moots that he had adjudicated.
16:51 hours : Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani from the Delhi High Court begins addressing the gathering.
Highlights of his Speech:
Honourable Lorship, started by greeting everyone and reminiscing the times when we had an opportunity to meet in person.
- He begins his speech by the quote “Law is a serious avocation.”
- He added the Importance of standing out rather than getting dissolved in the crowd to leave a mark.
- Then, he suggests the budding lawyers to deliver justice as the clients are a lawyer’s true judge.
- Further, he gives valuable advice to the audience and encourages the students to cultivate the habit of Un-ending handwork, indomitable patience and unwavering perseverance.
17:59 hours : Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dr. S.N Pathak from the Jharkhand High Court starts addressing the audience.
Highlights of his Speech:
- He started his address by citing that he was delighted to be the part of the auspicious event.
- He appreciated the organisers for the great efforts made by them, and especially thanked Mr. Ashok Chauhan.
- He emphasizes on perseverance and passion in order to make a mark. He believes that “things can be turned around in an instant, even when it feels like it will be easier to give up.”
- He also stressed on consistency in practice and added that moot courts were one such platform that provided practical experience, which was different from bookish knowledge.
- He believes that success stories are a combined and coherent efforts of the team.
- He ended his speech by quoting Helen Keller, “character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.’ Character is vital, too.
17:09 hours : Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajendra Kumar Srivastava from the Madhya Pradesh High Court starts addressing the audience.
Highlights of his Speech:
- Addressing the gathering…. He cites the importance of mooting. He shares tips with the law students to succeed in this profession.
- He further congratulated all the participants and added that each budding lawyer who competed will return with lots of knowledge and lessons.
- He also encouraged the students to participate in the moots.
- He narrates that he is honoured and proud to participate in the virtual mode of AIM.
- He encouraged the students and thereby enunciated that “Challenges would come, but we shouldn’t be afraid.”
- He persuaded us to strive for an honest life, and added that if one believes in hard-work, luck and success would follow.
- He encouraged us by saying we were all competent and could do whatever we wanted in life, as long as we remained focused, optimistic and positive — “Waqt se ladkar jo naseeb badal de/ insaan wohi jo apni taqdeer badal de/ kal kya hoga kabhi mat socho/ kya pata kal waqt khud apni tasveer badal de.”
- He quoted Charlie Chaplin, ‘Life laughs at you when you are unhappy, life smiles at you when you are happy, but life salutes you when you make others happy.’
- He ended on an even more interesting note, quoting Kennedy and what he said about change. ‘Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.’
17:27 hours : Finally, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol who is a Chief Justice of Patna High Court and also the Chief Guest for this evening.
- The importance of the Article 39(A), Article 40(A) and Article 51 of Indian Constitutional Law.
- He highlights the need of legal professional in this era and encourages students to contribute highly in the field of law by “Serving the Society.”
- Lastly, he concludes by quoting – “Life is uncertain but it has it’s own way of unfolding” where difficulties lead to success and living life to its fullest
17:52 hours : After Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol finished his speech, he and all the other respected dignitaries were thanked for their presence by our Honourable Chairman Amity Law School, Prof. (Dr.) D.K Bandyopadhyay.
17:54 hours : Our Founder President, Amity Law School & Ritanand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF), Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan now enters the virtual platform to address the gathering.

- He started his speech by appreciating all the participants for their talents and thanked each and every speaker.
- He thanked all the Judges and Dignitaries for being a part of this great and monumental day in Amity Law School’s History.
- He motivated each and every one of the participants by saying that he is inspired by all of them and from their minds.

She ended her speech by expressing her thanks to all the Co-Ordinators and Volunteers for their hard work which made the event possible.
10th Amity International Moot Court Competition, our flagship program was organized from 9th October to 11th October, 2020. College volunteers participated enthusiastically for the lucrative conduction of the event. The delegates participated with tremendous ardour and zeal.
Amity Law School extends heartiest gratitude to all the Judges, guests, participating teams and college volunteers who worked day and night to mark their event as a memorable competition in the history of Mooting.
