The Legal Aid clinic of the National University of Advanced Legal studies (NUALS), Kochi with its aim of attaining a litigation free society launched the program ‘Advokates and Advokids’ initiated by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ernakulam. The program is a platform where the legal experts and law students join hands to help the less privileged attain the ends of justice and also create awareness about their rights.

The inaugural address delivered by the DLSA Chairman Hon’ble Dr. Kauser Edappagath, followed the presidential address by Rose Varghese, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, NUALS. Dr. Kauser informed the volunteers as to the prevailing scheme’s undertaken by DLSA and also highlighted the importance of being committed towards the cause of the needy. The Vice Chancellor congratulated the efforts of the faculty co-ordinator Mrs. Namitha K.L.

The Hon’ble Secretary of DLSA, Sub-Judge Sri A.M Basheer and Prof. Dr. M.C Valson were the felicitators. Sri A.M Basheer gave an insight into the working of the program and enlightened the volunteers as to their duties towards the under-privileged. The Munsiff-Magistrate of Ernakulam Sri Shamnad S. and Sri Shyam Padman (Advocate, High Court of Kerala) were the key speakers in the academic sessions dealing with anti-ragging and the topic ‘Common pitfalls in social networking/cyber space – awareness, avoidance & management’ respectively. The anti-ragging session by Sri Shamnad S. came at an appropriate time for the freshmen. The interactive session by Sri Shyam Padman encouraged the students to empower themselves by stepping out of the virtual world.
