Delhi High Court: A Single Judge Bench comprising of Indermeet Kaur, J, has taken up a writ petition filed against circulars issued by JNU dated 21.09.2017 and 25.09.2017, by which, a condition has been laid down that candidates who wish to pursue a PhD programme must possess an M. Phil degree.

The arguments put forward by the petitioner(s) are that this condition was not present in any earlier admission brochure of JNU. Secondly, the petitioner(s) having already started their PhD programme in June 2016 , would suffer irreparable set-back if the impugned notification is allowed to stand. The Court stayed the impugned order till the next date of hearing. The matter is listed for 28.02.2018. [Preeti Umarao v. Jawaharlal Nehru University, 2017 SCC OnLine Del 12107, decided on 15.11.2017]
