As reported by the Times of India, the Supreme Court has stayed the Patna High Court’s judgment dated September 30, 2016 quashing the Bihar Government’s notification which  banned the consumption and sale of all types of liquor in the State. The State Government had moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s order where it was held that the punishments imposed in respect of the Liquor ban in the State of Bihar by way of the amendment to the Bihar Excise Act, 1915 are quite unreasonable and draconian and cannot be justified in a civilized society.
