Ministry of Steel via order dated 10th June, 2016 made Stainless Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2016. The Central Government after consulting with the Bureau of Indian Standards in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 14 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), made this order.

Paragraph 2(d) defines the term ITC (HS) Code which simply mean the Indian Trades Classification (Harmonized Systems) Codes, whereas Paragraph 3 states the Prohibition regarding manufacture, storage, sale, distribution etc of any stainless steel product defined in the Schedule under Paragraph 2(f) which do not bear Standard Mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards. Paragraph 4 of the order states that all manufacturers of stainless steel products shall make an application to the Bureau of Indian Standards for obtaining the license and maintaining it. Paragraph 5 gives power to the appropriate authority that he may under Paragraph 5 (a) ask for information as he deems necessary relating to the manufacture, storage for sale, sale or distribution of any stainless steel product from any person engage in manufacture, storage for sale, sale or distribution etc. and  whereas sub clause (b) he can inspect any books or other documents and other stainless steel products; whereas Paragraph 6 talks about testing of samples at any laboratory approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Schedule 1 under paragraph 2(f) lists down the Steel Products under mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards certification.
